The Drama Guild: This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing

With the mark of the end of the musical season for SHA back in December, it’d be quite a dull rest of the year without a theatrical outlet for those girls enthralled by the fun and collaboration associated with putting on a play. Therefore, the spotlight was far from finished shining on the talented SHA girls with a passion for theater. Thanks to the SHA club, Drama Guild! This group of girls puts on a play each year, and this year members of which put together their rendition of the play “This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing” by Finegan Kruckemeyer. The play tells the story of 3 triplet girls struck down by the tragic loss of their mother only to find themselves physically apart in the coming years where they must navigate their own way in the world while discovering themselves and eventually reuniting.

The members of the guild worked for 2 months every Monday and Thursday quite discreetly in the lecture hall under the guidance of Mrs. Delaney and the senior crew members, with the hopes of putting together both fun and amazing play which its safe to say they achieved. The effort particularly sought to seek creative liberties from each cast member not just focusing on their obvious theater abilities but artistic ones too. All the props used in the play were made by the cast with the help of consulting puppeteer Isaac Bloodworth in order to bring true justice to the play’s location dealing with war, nature, and the sea as well as its charismatic characters. The Drama Guild members entered their production into the CT Drama Association Festival which they participated in by filming, with the help of sophomore Magdalena Blatchley, the entire thing in the lecture hall with no breaks just perseverance throughout the entirety and received awards including Outstanding Storytelling and Outstanding Actor Awards for Jamie ’24 and Maeve ’23.
