SHA’s First Fall Festival

On October 5th, Sacred Heart Academy hosted their first-ever Fall Festival. This fun afternoon of music, refreshments, friends and activities took place from 3pm-6pm with an admission fee of only five dollars. Our very own Student Council put together this new event, led by their enthusiastic President, senior Ashley Heidtmann. I had the opportunity to speak to Ashley regarding the Fall Festival to get the inside scoop of her inspiration to bring this event to Sacred Heart. When I asked her where her idea originated from, she said, “Last year when I was in gym class, one of my classmates mentioned the idea of having a fair or festival of some sort at school. At this time, I was an appointed member of Student Council, and I thought it would be a good idea to do something different because we tend to host similar events every year. I thought it would be a good way to kick off the school year and help welcome the freshmen into the school.” Ashley continued. As a dedicated member of Student Council, she was elected President of the executive board. She remembered this idea as she took on her new role of leader. The new school year began, and Ashley started proposing her ideas for this new event. Soon enough, preparations for Sacred Heart’s first Fall Festival were underway.
When I asked Ashley to describe the Fall Festival, she said, “It is just like a small fair or festival you would have in your town with activities like pumpkin painting, bobbing for apples, a bounce hose, pie eating contests and tie dying T-shirts. There will be music playing, food and drinks.” The Festival was open to Sacred Heart students, their families and friends, and anyone else who was interested in attending. Originally, the festival was planned to take place on Saturday, October 5th, but due to the prediction of an extremely rainy day, it was moved to Sunday. Ashley said, “We are very lucky that we were able to reschedule it and still use the equipment because we rented it for the whole weekend. Everyone was very cooperative and it seems to be looking up.” Not even bad weather can stop Student Council from putting on their exciting Fall Festival.
Admissions to the event is five dollars, and with the money they make, half will go towards Student Council to help them fund all the great activities they put on throughout the year, and they will generously donate the other half to charity. The Fall Festival is a great effort to help bring together the school community while incorporating a new and exciting event that at the same time welcomes those from outside the school. Ashley hopes the Fall Festival will become an annual event at Sacred Heart, and the school’s fair-goers definitely wish for the same!
