It is the middle of May, and spring athletics at the Academy are in season! Our Lacrosse, Softball, Indoor Track, and Tennis teams have been competing for a month and a half, and have found great success. From SCC Scholar Athletes to state tournament births, and National meet qualifications, our SHArks have done it all!

The Sacred Heart Lacrosse Team is currently 9-5. Their senior night was last week against St. Paul Catholic High School, and the Sharks won 20-7. The senior captains being honored are Stella Carney, Emma Kirck, Charlotte Brown, Jillian Lee. Charlotte Brown will be playing lacrosse in college at the University of New Hampshire and Jillian Lee will be on the roster at Assumption University. Stella will be enrolling at Virginia Tech this fall, and Emma is headed to Middlebury.

SHA Softball has been having a great year, with a current record of 11-6. They faced Shelton on Senior Night, and ended the game in a quick 5 inning, 12-0 run-rule victory. At this game, senior captains Alyssa Norton, Adrianna Ramos, Anne Plunkett, and Brooklyn Sigmon were honored for the 4 years they committed to the program. Alyssa is going to Cornell, Adrianna is headed to Providence, Anne will be an Ohio State buckeye, and Brooklyn will be attending Michigan. This victory also earned the sharks a state tournament birth, having reached the 8 win threshold. The softball team also headed down to West Haven on Wednesday, May 10th, for a night game against SCC rival, West Haven High School. This game went into extra innings, and the sharks ended up pulling through in the end, with a 5-7 win. Michela Tory was named player of the game for her 3-4 performance with a single, triple, and 2 run home run. The softball team is currently in the last week of their season, with upcoming games against Amity Regional High School, Daniel Hand High School, and Darien High School. They are currently working towards qualifying for the SCC tournament.

The Track and Field team has had an undefeated season, going 9-0 in their regular season meets. The trackies also just competed and took first place in the SCC East Sectional meet. At this meet, Victoria Baker, Megan Doyle, and Hayden Solecki swept the medals in high jump, and Juliette Forstorm won the 3200M and took third place in the 1600M. The sharks senior night was last week, and seniors Megan Doyle, Madison Rollins, Talia Chester, Chase Ireland, Kristina Ponzio, Haylie Cieslewski, Yaritza Zecua-Herrera, and Jase Upchurch. Congratulations to junior Victoria Baker for qualifying for the Nike Outdoor Nationals.

The Sacred Heart Tennis team has also been having a great year, with a current record of 10-6. Their senior night match up was against Foran on Monday, May 15th. The SHArks pulled out a win for seniors Daniela Bejleri, Kate Marquis, Mya Ajanaku, Jessica Cofrancesco, Leah Jaques, Zara Tariq, and Shelbe Vidal. Among these seniors, the captains are Daniela, Leah, and Jessica. The tennis team is currently preparing for SCC’s and states!
