Each school year around November Sacred Heart Academy puts on an amazing musical, also known as its SHA-musical, at the Shubert theatre. The SHA students, faculty, musical director, choreographer, and music director get together to perform an amazing show for all to see. Some of SHA’s past musicals performed by the incredibly talented SHA community have been “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, “Rock of Ages”, “Descendants”, and many more. This year’s musical that is being performed is “Once Upon a One More Time”. This musical shows women empowerment through the role of princesses and features many songs from Britany Spears. In this musical the classical princesses discover that there is more to life than the classical “happily ever after;” It is such a unique and exciting musical.
The SHA musical is an especially important aspect of Sacred Heart Academy for many of its students. Many extremely talented students, freshman through senior year, take part in the musical yearly making it one of the schools’ greatest accomplishments as a community. Whether as an actor on stage or a crew member behind the scenes, every student, and faculty, has such a significant role in making the show great. The actors in particular give their time and energy starting in June for auditions and then begin rehearsals late August practicing for the musical all the way until show time. They meet for practice roughly three to five days a week in the lecture hall perfecting their routines and choreography up until moving to the Shubert for the last week before showtime. The crew members on the other hand participate starting in the school and ending in the Shubert a week prior to the show days to help with costumes, make-up and hair, lights, sounds, stage props, and many others to help make the show. The faculty are also an incredible asset to the musical, giving their time to help with crews and making sure everything runs smoothly. All the students bring their talents together to make the musical absolutely incredible each year for all to enjoy, and they succeed every time.
With all being said, our musical director does a fantastic job at bringing the creation to life and onto stage for all to enjoy the show. Once it is tech week, all the SHA students and faculty who are part of the musical come together at the Shubert Theatre to practice before show night. Having everyone who is enthusiastic about making the musical in the Shubert Theatre during tech week is so exciting and shows such a sense of community that is like no other.
