Fall Sports at Sacred Heart

Fall+Sports+at+Sacred+Heart

When the leaves turn orange and the air feels crisp and cool it is easy to tell the season of fall sports is here at SHA! The sight of boisterous athletes packing into large buses heading to games, the sounds of soccer balls being punted across fields, the smell of wet grass caked on the bottom of cleats and sticks, and the overabundance of Gatorade and granola bars being consumed by hardworking athletes can only mean one thing.  A new sport season, and the fresh start that comes with it, fills the senses of everyone that walks onto Sacred Heart Academy’s campus, especially our dedicated athletes!  Students who attend Sacred Heart Academy have the opportunity to try out for volleyball, swimming and diving, soccer, field hockey, cross country, and cheerleading in the fall.  Every single one of these sports requires extreme dedication and practice. Being a part of one of these teams is an amazing way for the girls to  meet new people, create camaraderie, learn and perfect sports skills, and truly embed themselves in their school’s community.

The fall sports season kicks off on the first day of school (usually tryouts or first practice depending on the sport) and continues all the way into late October/early November. Athletes who play soccer or field hockey practice on the two main fields on our school’s campus. Those who play volleyball (who recently made it to states!) or cheerleading, practice in the school gym.  If a student wants to run cross country, those athletes practice around the school’s track, as well as run all over campus in order to develop strong endurance.  The swim and dive team practice at Albertus Magnus’s pool and are bused there every day.

Sacred Heart students, staff members, and families of the athletes are constantly showing their support for the girls during this season.  At these games parents can be seen rooting for the red-and-white from bleachers and sidelines, and students and staff proudly wearing sports apparel.  Occasionally, the school mascot “the SHArk” might pay a visit! Fall sports truly unite our school community. Come on out and cheer on these amazing athletes!
